The Granary - click for a larger viewIn 1830, when Stephen bought the Homestead Farm, the granary was one of the outbuildings. It was built above ground on stone piers, with storage space at ground level for farm machinery. A unique feature of the granary is the upstairs which was used to store corn. Corn cribs are usually provided with slatted sides to provide necessary ventilation. Here the clapboard sides are louvered outward so that air can readily circulate and provide direct protection from the weather. On the front side next to the door is a boarded up cat hole.
